Growth
Student growth measures the academic growth rates of groups of students from year to year. Schools are rated as Level 1 through Level 5. Level 1 indicates significant evidence that students are making less than expected growth while Level 5 indicates significant evidence that students are making more than expected growth. Put simply, growth is calculated by comparing students’ exiting achievement to their entering achievement. The growth measures are relative to students’ expected growth, which is determined by the growth that is observed within the actual population of Tennessee test-takers in a subject, grade, and year. More details about the statistical models and business rules are available here, and additional resources for interpreting the growth measures are available here.
